Their combined expertise results in a site that not only looks distinctive but supports M-Cult’s long-term ambitions and values. Maintaining the original 2000s logo, the new visual identity, draws from the materiality of technology — the way cables twist, knot, and hold things together. This visual language embodies the balance between the communal and the technological, creating a soft space in which to reflect on where various technologies stand today and where they might take us. Rooted in this idea, the visual identity embraces the often intertwined relationships between artists, communities, and the technologies they engage with. I used simple geometric patterns that were all different but still connected, and based the colour palette on actual biocolour samples from the project. I wanted to avoid the usual “bio” imagery and instead focus on the design side of things, making it playful and easy to approach. Käänne means “turning point” in Finnish, so I started by asking people how they imagined the word visually—most described a sharp, sudden movement. That led to the central zigzag motif, which I first prototyped by hand with paper to explore rhythm and flow. The colour palette avoided direct political associations, leaning on neutral yet lively tones, while the typography stayed clear and adaptable for everything from social media posts to large banners. The result was a flexible system that could shift between playful and serious, always connected to the festival’s ideas of change and collective energy. Geopolitical Stage Visual Identity, Motion DesignKansallisteatteri (Finnish National Theater) &nbsp; For Forest as a Geopolitical Stage, I was invited to create the visual identity for a research-based art project around the Finnish National Theatre. The goal was to turn complex political ideas into something visually clear, while leaving room for the artworks’ own voice. All materials were made in three languages to keep the project inclusive and accessible. The main visual cue came from theatre stage beam lights, which also became the basis for motion in the identity—important since the design would sit alongside moving artworks. The logo took on a more grounded tone to speak to geopolitics, while still keeping a subtle theatrical touch. The challenge was to craft a look that was both original and accessible—avoiding the usual eco-friendly clichés like green leaves—while clearly communicating Punos’ urgent work on ecological crises and indigenous climate justice in Finland. The site needed to balance a mix of media: images, videos, audio, texts, and digital art documentation, all within a cohesive and engaging space. My inspiration came from mycorrhizae, the symbiotic fungi connecting most plants on Earth. This idea became a metaphor for Punos as a “human mycorrhizae” network, bridging nature and culture. I developed animated illustrations of fungi to represent this connection, paired with a vibrant colour palette and typefaces chosen for both accessibility and character, including support for Sámi languages. These creatures are made entirely of ellipses, one of architecture’s most defying forms – some of the inspiration also came from Le Corbusier’s modulor. Through these beings, I intended to visually play with the museum and make it interactive and youthful.
